Caribbean Villa: A Stunning Fusion of Traditional and Modern Design

A Transitional Masterpiece by Randall Waddell

This 5200 sq ft, 2-storey private residence in Trinidad and Tobago seamlessly blends traditional Caribbean architecture with modern interior design, creating a unique and captivating living space.

Designed by Randall Waddell of HomeWork Design Studio, the Caribbean Villa is a testament to the harmonious fusion of traditional and contemporary elements. The clients, young professionals constructing their first home, collaborated closely with the studio to plan and design the interior and exterior layout, resulting in a truly personalized space.

The exterior of the Caribbean Villa exudes timeless charm with its traditional Caribbean architecture. However, it is the interior that truly captivates with its modern aesthetic. The foyer, with its grand sweeping staircase adorned with a French Roast iron rail, sets the tone for the entire home. Hardwood doors and a 10ft front glass and cedar door further enhance the luxurious atmosphere.

One of the standout features of the Caribbean Villa is the 30ft white quartzite wall in the sitting area, flooded with natural light through a 15ft wood-grained aluminum window. This striking element creates a sense of drama and serves as a focal point in the space. The main living areas feature large format, neutral tiles, adding to the modern and sophisticated ambiance.

Functionality and comfort were key considerations in the design process. The Caribbean Villa boasts four ensuite bedrooms, a media room, kitchen, dining area, home office, and laundry facilities. The outdoor space is equally impressive, with a swimming pool, large entertainment deck, and outdoor appliances. The smart features of the home, including programmable appliances, window coverings, and remote access home alarm and security cameras, further enhance the convenience and enjoyment of the space.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic, the Caribbean Villa was completed in September 2020. The HomeWork Design Studio successfully navigated logistical hurdles to ensure the timely delivery of finishing products, resulting in a seamless and polished final product.

The Caribbean Villa is a testament to the power of collaboration and the ability to seamlessly merge traditional and modern design elements. It is a true masterpiece that showcases the talent and vision of Randall Waddell and the HomeWork Design Studio.
